Fiduciary Freedom® Index

How Does Your Retirement Plan Measure Up?

The Fiduciary Freedom Index, or FFI, provides plan sponsors with a clear and objective assessment of their retirement plan. The analysis reviews areas such as plan fees, investments, plan design, fiduciary processes, participant support, and the overall value being delivered to the organization and its employees.

The FFI is designed to help plan sponsors understand more than whether their plan is compliant or competitively priced. It can also help the organization evaluate and track the return on its retirement plan investment.

Identify what is working well
Uncover potential risks and improvement opportunities
Compare plan fees, investments, services, and plan design
Understand how company retirement plan spending is being used
Evaluate the value received from recordkeepers, advisors, TPAs, investment providers, and other service partners
Track the return on the company’s retirement plan spending
Measure the potential ROI of employer contributions, plan expenses, education, advice, and participant support
Connect company spending to participant engagement and outcomes
Establish measurable benchmarks that can be reviewed over time
Prioritize improvements that may provide the greatest organizational and participant impact

Understand the Return on Your Retirement Plan Investment

Your retirement plan represents a meaningful investment by your organization. Employer contributions, administrative expenses, advisory fees, employee education, technology, and internal staff time all contribute to the total cost of maintaining the plan.

The FFI can help organize those costs and evaluate whether the company is receiving meaningful value in return. Depending on the information available, the FFI may help track indicators such as:

Employee participation
Contribution and savings rates
Employer contribution utilization
Participant engagement
Education and advice usage
Investment diversification
Retirement readiness
Employee recruitment and retention value
Service-provider performance
Administrative efficiency
Fiduciary process completion
Fee reductions or cost savings
Improvements made following prior reviews

The objective is to help the organization move from simply measuring plan costs to understanding what those costs are producing.
